About
Born and raised in Texas, Xandy Smith has proven his versatility as both an editor and a director across a range of formats, genres, and budgets. Having consistently made movies since the age of four, Xandy inevitably attended film school and graduated from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts in 2000 with several accomplished projects under his belt. With a father who is a popular underground author and a mother who is a professional storyteller, it’s no wonder that his childhood led to an interest in the arts.
He continued his film career in Los Angeles, assisting some of the industry's top commercial directors, learning the 30-second format very intimately. He has gone on to helm numerous national spots of his own with several prestigious production companies and continues to thrive in the commercial industry.
Much of Xandy’s success in commercials stems from his passion for narrative filmmaking and working closely with actors. His feature directorial debut, Solver, sold out select theaters across the country and is now available on His many short films have entertained at festivals, leading HBO to pick up his short, Trespass, starring Harry Lennix (Man of Steel) and Nelsan Ellis (True Blood), who also wrote the film. Xandy understands the importance of telling a story and has spent years with highly regarded acting coaches to fortify his craft as a narrative director.
A lover of camera gear and editorial tech, Xandy also takes advantage of the creative playground afforded by music videos, and always welcomes the chance to experiment with new tools and visual styles. He’s directed everything from chart-topping rock to YouTube-sensation rap, Grammy nominated hip-hop, and the cult genre of psychobilly.
Passionate about every aspect of bringing stories to life on the screen, Xandy is always looking for the next project to add to the work already on his horizon.
